This year marks a significant milestone for Original Style: 40 years of designing and manufacturing ceramic tiles in the UK. In an industry that has seen profound change over the past four decades, our journey is one defined not just by longevity, but by evolution - adapting to new challenges while remaining true to the principles that have shaped us from the very beginning.
Our story began with the production of tile sets for cast iron fireplaces. What started as a complementary product quickly revealed a wider opportunity, as our tiles found their way into kitchens and homes beyond their original setting. By following that natural progression, we began to expand our ranges, laying the foundations for the diverse collections we offer today.

A pivotal moment in our history came when faced with a breakdown in the supply chain. Rather than look elsewhere, we made the decision to bring key elements of production in-house. That choice would go on to define Original Style, giving us greater control over quality, enabling us to refine our processes, and ultimately allowing us to build the specialist expertise that remains at the heart of our business today.
Over the years, much of the ceramics industry has shifted towards large-scale, offshore manufacturing. We have taken a different path. We remain proud to manufacture in the UK, continuing to invest in the people, skills and processes that make our products distinctive. Across our Exeter facility, traditional techniques such as mould-making, hand-painting, screen-printing and the intricate art of glazing are practised alongside modern technologies ensuring that craftsmanship and innovation work hand in hand.

This balance between heritage and progress is reflected in our collections. Many of our designs have stood the test of time, with ranges such as Artworks continuing to bring together rich glazes, detailed mouldings and a breadth of colour that allows for truly individual interiors. At the same time, we continue to develop new collections that respond to contemporary tastes, exploring larger formats, new finishes and evolving design trends.

Our commitment to quality is perhaps best illustrated by the revival of our Winchester Classic Collection. First introduced over 30 years ago, this much-loved range is currently being re-engineered to meet the standards we set for ourselves today. It has been a complex process, but one driven by a simple principle: never compromise on the integrity of the product.
As we celebrate 40 years, we recogise that our success is built on the dedication and skill of our team, the loyalty of our customers and a shared appreciation for thoughtful, well-crafted design. While the industry around us continues to evolve, our focus remains clear - to create tiles that combine enduring style with exceptional quality, made with care and expertise here in the UK.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to building on this legacy; continuing to invest in craftsmanship, embrace innovation and shape the future of British tile manufacturing for decades to come.
