  4. Interior Trends 2021: Staycation

Interior Trends 2021: Staycation With the majority of us currently unable to jet off to sunnier climates, we’ve been looking re encouraging people to look at ways to bring those well-deserved vacation feels into your home. Our Staycation trend is all about showcasing how you can bring relaxing, holiday-inspired vibes into your interior décor so you can create a space to escape within all year round – who doesn’t want that?!   The perfect place to start when embracing this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations, or coastal inspired retreats, and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations, then incorporate them into a designated space within the home. Whether it’s a countryside inspired bathroom, a bedroom with Moroccan accents, a kitchen that transports you to the Mediterranean or an outdoor area that retells stories from late nights in Spain – the possibilities are almost endless. For us and many others, coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the Staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home. Blue tones personify the natural hues of the sea and sky and immediately provide a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Team these blues with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette. To take the coastal vibe a step further, our Maui Pebble mosaics are the perfect accompanying floor tile for the ultimate seaside inspired escape. It’s also important to remember that’s not just colour that can help you achieve your desired look, texture and surface finishes also play an integral part. Keeping with the seaside theme, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy tile finishes creating a bright space that bounces light around the room to mimic the sun reflecting off the sea. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature a light-inducing iridescent finish and coastal curves – perfect for achieving that statement nautical style. 5. Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary

Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary Over the past year, the need for creating calm and serene spaces within the home has become even more paramount. Confined to the walls that surround us, escapism and relaxation are what homeowners are seeking to achieve when updating an interior décor scheme – and we couldn’t be more on board with this design and lifestyle trend.   Our Sanctuary trend looks at ways to bring tranquility into the home to establish distinct areas for us to unwind in and harmonise our emotional well-being. When it comes to colourways, it’s all about the soft pinks and warm beige's to really embrace a calming and classic neutral palette. Textures also play a key part when it comes to designing a sanctuary. Tactile surfaces, either smooth and glossy or structured and matt, will help create a cosy, spa-like feel and tiles are the perfect material for incorporating either of these textures. For a matt wall covering, our Trellis collection in our Living range is the perfect tile for encapsulating this trend. Featured below is Trellis Lace which has been teamed with warm brown tones and gold accents – a design that exudes tranquility and style. If you're looking to incorporate more dusky pink tones and bolder prints, our Odyssey Taupe tiles in our Leigh pattern will provide a cosy, feminine feel whilst maintaining a matt finish. If you love luxury and want to take this look a step further, look to incorporate some more reflective finishes for an added touch of opulence. Our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics or large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are the epitome of luxe décor; their reflective and polished surfaces bounce light around a room for a bright and welcoming atmosphere. To complete the look, incorporating a number of other natural materials is a must. From wooden accessories, indoor plants or even some dried pampas grass will encourage that feeling of serenity and bring all design aspects together. 7. Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub

Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub With many of us now working and schooling from home, the way we’re using the spaces that surround us on a day-to-day basis has changed significantly. Pre-2020, our homes were predominately places of relaxation, socialisation and recreation and now, with the restrictions imposed in response to the pandemic, our properties have become more multi-functional than ever before.   Our Home Hub trend looks at creating spaces, within the home, that are dedicated working areas with décor solutions to motivate and focus the mind. It’s important that these spaces are created in isolation to allow us to shift between working and recreational zones so our homes can be used efficiently for multiple activities. It’s incredibly important that working spaces are kept separate and distinct for our own well-being and our Home Hub trend will help you achieve just this.   For those who have a spare room or ample garden space, the natural step might be to create a working hub by converting a room into an office or investing in a garden room or shed conversion. However, if such spaces aren’t available, adapting existing spaces is also something to consider. By sectioning off an area of your living, dining, kitchen or bedroom you could easily establish a working ‘zone’ that has its own office vibe in order to create an isolated feel. Our Pietra Lombarda tiles feature a subtle terrazzo effect which, alongside its large format, makes it a great choice for embracing the Home Hub trend. It’s 90 x 90cm size results in fewer grout lines creating an almost seamless, less busy interior space. Team Pietra Lombarda with our statement, palm print tile – Eden Hothouse – for a working hub that energises and exudes style. If you’d prefer to opt for a wall covering that’s more pared back, our Eden Pergola tile - as shown in the above mood board - is a perfect alternative for a more understated look.  For those who aren’t opposed to going bold, our Herald mosaic is yet another statement tile for capitalising on this trend. Featuring a combination of wood, stone and marble in a geometric formation, this tile has the right balance of industrial and natural textures for creating a distinctive, cool and contemporary working space Watch our video below to discover more about Home Hub and to see how you could incorporate this trend into your home.   Read more...
  8. Transforming your space with tiles

Transforming your space with tiles Tiles have been a staple in interiors for decades for good reason, their practical properties and vast beautiful design options mean they are the perfect choice for wall and floor coverings throughout the home. However, while many naturally select tiles for their kitchen and bathroom spaces, many overlook the fact they are ideal for hallways, living areas and outdoor spaces.   Why tiles? Naturally, we’re big fans of tiles here at Original Style, but there really is a tile for every area of the home. With recent trends seeing homeowners wanting to create seamless, open plan spaces using long-lasting, practical materials, tiles are the answer to many interior design needs. They are brilliant for creating synergy throughout the home and can be used as a basis to build upon to create many styles and trends, they also provide more durability than perhaps carpet, wood, laminate or lino. While we offer a vast range of tile collections, we understand that sometimes our customers can feel a little unsure where to begin. So we thought we'd take the time to go through a number of style ideas and explain which of our tiles can be used to help create your perfect interior space.   Scandi-Style tile ideas  Scandinavian interior design has dominated home trends for the last few years and it certainly seems the trend is here to stay. This style usually starts with natural textures and neutral tones, like woods teamed with cream, beige and white shades to build a soft yet warm space. For floors, our wood-effect tiles are perfect for this; choose from muted shades of grey, cool-toned browns as well as warmer shades. If wood-effect tiles aren’t your style, take a look at our entire ‘Tileworks’ collection, there are a number of stone and concrete effect tiles in neutral tones, which can be used on both walls and floors to embrace this trend.   Statement style tile ideas Patterned tiles are also hugely popular, from feature floors to stylish splashbacks, patterned tiles are perfect for those looking to add a little extra detail and interest to a scheme. There are plenty of ways to incorporate a statement style with tiles into your space, from fabulous - yet functional - kitchen, bathroom and hallway floors to gorgeous eye-catching walls. Our ‘Odyssey’ collection is home to a series of patterned tiles and borders, inspired by places and cultural design from around the globe and throughout the ages. Think Moroccan bazaars or Turkish pottery, these tiles will transform the walls and floors in your home. For statement walls, our ‘Living’ collection features a selection of large-format, patterned tiles that are distinctively different. These include unique designs such as the French-inspired Maison, iridescent Art Deco style Radiance, and, the uber-cool Nano with urban ditsy prints. These tiles are suitable for many areas in the home - we especially love them for feature walls and, they all come with a coordinating plain tile so you can go as bold or as subtle as you like.   Contemporary style tile ideas Contemporary styles work in kitchens, bathrooms, and generally any room in the home! A modern design style can be created with tiles in many ways, in a variety of formats, textures, finishes, and colours. We’ve got plenty of options for contemporary style-tiles, from stone and wood-effect to large-format glass and metallic finishes. Large-format tiles are wonderfully versatile for a variety of settings and fewer grout lines make for a more chic, seamless finish and can help a space to appear bigger than it is.   Farmhouse style tile ideas The farmhouse, country-style trend is timeless and can be easily created with tiles. Muted hues and natural textures provide the perfect basis to build a rustic interior scheme. Natural stone tiles are great for this; choose from limestone, slate and even real marble, all of which provide an authenticity that will reward you for years to come.     Read more...
  9. Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021

Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021 As we look forward to 2021, it’s important to consider the impact that 2020 has had on our lives and the influence upon our homes. For many of us, our priorities and lifestyles have altered dramatically and it was inevitable that such a sudden transformation of circumstances would completely change how we look at and use the spaces within our properties.   Each year, Original Style forecasts interior trends for the upcoming year working with industry and in-house experts to determine what styles, designs and colourways are likely to be popular so we can look at our tile ranges and help customers choose products to best achieve each of the predicted looks. This year is a little different. As a result of changing behaviours and everyday life, we considered it necessary to look at evolved lifestyle trends, to further understand the new priorities within the home, so we could inspire the embrace of the new normal and help customers adapt spaces to better suit their interior needs. Working alongside our in-house design experts, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan, we’ve determined three key home lifestyle trends that research suggests will be of most interest to homeowners over the coming year. So, without further ado, let’s talk trends!     Sanctuary Sanctuary is all about creating a calm, safe and tranquil space within the home to de-stress and escape from the worries and angst that life can bring. “With the global pandemic having an impact on our mental health, it’s vital that we create an isolated space, within our home, which brings serenity and allows us to take some time out to focus on our emotional wellbeing. Our environments have the ability to affect the way we think so this trend is about creating spaces that instill peace. Think soothing, neutral colourways and nature-inspired materials” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “Textures also play a key part in this trend. Tactile surfaces with either smooth and glossy or structured and matt finishes will help create a cosy, spa-like feel within a scheme. You also want to look at adding a touch of opulence for a slight luxurious vibe, so reflective materials such as our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics and large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are perfect for achieving this” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Staycation Due to restricted travel overseas, 2020 has been the year of the staycation and this trend is all about helping you bring relaxing, holiday vibes into your interior décor.   “The best way to embrace this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations or coastal inspired retreats and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations and bring them into your home. Beaches and coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home that personify the natural hues of the sea and sky. Team with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “In addition to colour, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy materials to create bright, reflective spaces that bounce light around the room. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature iridescent qualities that not only provide a light-inducing surface but also mimic sea life inspired curves for the ultimate coastal-inspired space. Pair with soft woods and wicker textures to bring the look together” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Home Hub With many of us now working from home, the creation of remote office spaces has become a necessity and has completely changed how we use our homes on a day to day basis. “The Home Hub trend looks at working spaces and advocates décor solutions that motivates, inspires and brings a sense of calm – enabling us to work comfortably whilst creating a distinct space that’s separate to other areas of the home. Think urban jungle, bringing the outside in and cool and contemporary tiles with an industrial edge to create a working environment that has harmony and balance” - Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “When it comes to colourways, Home Hub is all about earthy tones. Incorporate various hues of greens and browns together with a range of surface textures and house plants to bring the look to life. “Our Living Eden tile range complements this trend beautifully. Featuring lush and leafy designs printed on a large-format matt base, these tiles encompass the natural, contemporary vibe of Home Hub and are perfect for embracing this trend” - Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style. 10. Tile of the Year 2021

Tile of the Year 2021 We’re delighted to reveal our Tile of the Year for 2021; Hawthorn Yellow, from the Victorian Floor Tile Collection!   Heritage, geometric Victorian Floor Tiles are a timeless interior trend and now the options are even more attractive with the contemporary, pastel tones of Hawthorn Yellow - the must have tile for 2021. As part of our iconic Victorian Floor Tile Collection, Hawthorn Yellow comes in a variety of shapes and can be teamed with a number of colourways to create a new dynamic with a fresh appeal. Hawthorn Yellow’s soft, muted tones evoke joy, and work well with a wide range of shades, from whites, greys, and, browns to pastel shades such as pink and green. We’ve created three beautiful settings, showcasing a variety of patterns in various colour options featuring Hawthorn Yellow. ‘Braemar’, as seen above, is one of our more traditional patterns, but by selecting the right tones you can create as much or as little impact as you wish. Here we’ve teamed Hawthorn Yellow with Dover White to highlight the subtle yellow tones and add warmth and depth whist creating a fun and modern look. Featured below in our ‘Brighton’ pattern are Hawthorn Yellow, Holkham Dune and Dover White. These tones complement one another to build a rich, yet contemporary tapestry of colour. This bold floor is perfect for those looking to add a modern twist on a classic design and create an interior with timeless style and a Scandi-vibe.  While Victorian Floor Tiles are traditionally used on floors we’re now seeing homeowners using them on their walls too.
