We love seeing customer projects come to life, whether it’s a modern kitchen or bathroom, a heritage hallway or a beautiful patio! When we discovered @casaoldcorn on Instagram and saw the most beautiful hallway featuring our Victorian Floor Tiles, we were delighted to work with Lauren and Mark on an exciting fireplace makeover.   Lauren’s Instagram account @casaoldcorn showcases the renovation of her beautiful family home, from her eclectic styling and design to makeover projects and interior ideas. We caught up with Lauren to find out more about how tiles can totally transform a space. Original Style: Can you tell us a little bit about your beautiful home? Lauren: We live in the north east of England and have lived in our home for around five years. Our home is Edwardian and was built in the early 1900s, our first home was a new build but we really love all the character and features you get in a period property.  Original Style: What were your primary goals when it came to updating your home, especially the living area and fireplace? Lauren: Our primary goals when decorating are always to make it more cosy and interesting. With the fireplace we could see its full potential and wanted to make it into more of a feature in the room. We knew the fireplace would look great painted a colour so we opted for a deep blue and we adore Original Style tiles, tiling the fireplace hearth has created so much more impact. We opted for Victorian Floor tiles in a bespoke pattern using pops of pastel colours - it looks amazing!  Original Style: Where did you find the inspiration for your hallway and living room? Lauren: Lots of our inspiration comes from other homes on Instagram. We love bold patterns and colours and have lots of quirky items that are conversation starters throughout our home. We love traditional prints and colours but with a twist. As soon as we moved in we knew tiles would look so much better in the hall than the dark wood floors which were installed beforehand. We had seen others hallways and could see the potential in ours.  Once we had decided on tiles for both the hallway and hearth we went on the hunt for the perfect ones. We found Original Style Victorian Floor tiles and loved all the different patterns and the quality looked great. The Original Style team where so helpful at helping me choose a pattern and colours for the hearth and sending me images to help me pick, they were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Original Style: Why did you choose this particular Victorian Floor Tile pattern, border and colourway for your fireplace?  Lauren: We went with the monochrome checkerboard tiles for our hallway as we think they’re stunning and timeless. We know for as-long as we live here they will never age and any decor will easily go with them. We decided to go for a detailed Victorian Floor Tile pattern for our hearth as it’s really traditional but with a little twist which we love. The pastel centres really bring it all to life.  Original Style: How important would you say it is to use a professional tiler? Lauren: We were on the hunt for a good tiler for the job and we found a really good local man to lay them. He was great and took the time and had the skills needed for the job. I think it’s really important to use an experienced tiler as the patterns are complex, with a number of pieces - it’s definitely an art and a job we couldn’t tackle ourselves. Original Style: What would you say to someone looking to incorporate tiled focal points in their home? Lauren: If you’re looking to incorporate tiles into your home, I would say go for it! They add so much character and they’re beautiful. It’s so special adding original features back into a period home. This year we’ve focused on shining a light on timeless tiles from some of our most loved collections with enduring style and quality.   Surface The Surface trend is all about our tiles that we’ve sourced from around the world, highlighting in particular our carefully curated range of contemporary tiles. Think clean lines, mixed formats and unusual surfaces, this trend is great for those looking to achieve a modern yet glamourous finish. Incorporating texture into a scheme is a great way to add detail and interest, without committing to bold colours or patterns. This trend focuses on an eclectic mix of tiles, showcasing some of our most interesting formats and textured products that have been meticulously sourced by our expert teams. Creating a luxe look in your home can be easily achieved by pairing together certain design elements. ‘This trend seeks to bring deep tones, contrasting surface finishes and subtle textural detail together to create an elegant feel with rustic touches. Bolder colours have been slowly making their way to the forefront of design, with vivid ceramics becoming a popular choice for those looking to inject some colour into kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and throughout the home. When it comes to embracing the Colour trend with tiles, the options from our ranges are almost endless. Illustrating a radiant feel, this trend features a range of artisanal tiles that are glazed in our factory. We've celebrated over 35 years as a leading tile manufacturer with our story beginning in the development of decorative tile sets for cast iron fireplaces. Today, we are renowned for our unrivalled tile glazes, exclusive designs and comprehensive tile options; many of which continue to be produced in Exeter, Devon. ‘The Craft trend celebrates our wide range of manufacturing methods. Bold botanical palm leaves, gorgeous green tones and our signature glossy tile glaze – Paradis Mere is our Tile of the Year for 2023! We have been nominating a Tile of the Year for the last six years, choosing exclusive tiles like Paradis Mere that are truly unique and set to influence upcoming trends.Small in format but bold in design, Paradis Mere has four faces. Each face showcases more of the pattern, offering a varied abundance of tropical leaves. Inspired by gorgeous botanical gardens and the summer palms found in Devon’s local areas of outstanding beauty, Paradis Mere was a natural choice for our Tile of the Year 2023.Paradis Mere has been designed and developed in our Design Studio in Devon and is manufactured in Exeter by our skilled and passionate production team. Using some of the most authentic manufacturing processes and glaze recipes, this tile is truly unique. Each tile is hand-crafted by skilled artisans using the longstanding screen printing method which, together with its reactive inks, means each kiln produces a different effect, so no two tiles are the same.‘We really love the unpredictable, rustic nature of reactive print. Botanical motifs are here to stay for the foreseeable - palms especially. After spending time visiting local botanical gardens, we saw this project as the perfect opportunity to combine them both together to create Botanique Paradis! Designed, developed, and produced in our Devon factory, Botanique really embodies the skilled craftsmanship and passion that we have for creating new products at Original Style.’ Becca Keenan New Products Designer. Botanique Paradis Mere is a versatile product, create a range of different looks with this tile – whatever your style! For a rustic kitchen look, mix up the faces, using ‘Mere’ or the coordinating plain tile 'Cotton' from our Winchester collection, to break the pattern up and add a pop of colour.For something more edgy, try using Paradis inside a shower enclosure without any coordinating plain tiles mixed in. You could use ‘Mere’ to tile the rest of the room, or maybe even just choose some areas to create a zoned effect. For a subtle look, team with our new ‘Cotton’ field tiles, their soft white glaze coordinates perfectly with Paradis Mere.Paradis Mere is a brand new tile and its versatile design can be styled to create a range of different looks - contemporary or traditional. Home to plenty of beautiful large format, modern wall and floor tiles our Tileworks range has lots to offer. Each year, we enrich this range with new products and for 2022, we’ve carefully selected four new tile collections, all offering something unique and special – we can’t wait to share them with you!   Nebraska A small-format wood-effect plank with a satin texture, Nebraska comes in four colours. Use alone or mix together for a stunning, coastal look, the mixture of blues and whites contrast beautifully, creating a unique yet charming look.  We also love the use of a single colourway in a herringbone or brick-bond layout, the White option would create a contemporary, Scandinavian feel and opting for a Marine, Blue or Aqua will add instant impact.   Oken The Oken range features hexagon and brick formats all with textured, rustic nuances, in five colourways.   Oken Hexagons Use together across both surfaces for a bold effect or use alone for feature walls – either way Oken hexagons provide a striking finish. Not only is this an essential activity for when we’re producing and sourcing new tile designs, but it provides the opportunity to scour our existing portfolio and establish tile pairings that customers can use in their homes to ensure they’re also ahead of the curve. Essentially, we do all the research so you don’t have to! Our designers, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan, are our in-house trend specialists and have established the following three key trends that are set to dominate the interiors scene during 2022.   Nature Nostalgia The Nature Nostalgia trend is inspired by fresh blooms and pastel hues – both of which are set to be key design and colour styles for 2022. Encapsulating elements of the cottagecore trend, Nature Nostalgia embraces a simpler lifestyle that is harmonious with nature. From an aesthetic perspective, this trend has a more traditional feel but with a contemporary edge thanks to the heavenly pastel hues.  “A story of spring fresh hues, colours and patterns inspired by floral dreams and modern tones. This trend encapsulates positivity, reconnecting with the outside world and finding joy in all things botanical” Jane Addis - New Products & Design Manager. When it comes to getting the look with tiles, the options from Original Style’s ranges are almost endless. Choose from gorgeous pink and purple glazes in Winchester, modern pennyround designs in Mosaics or the soft yet striking Wildflower Rose design in the Living range to establish the perfect wall covering and bring Nature Nostalgia into your home. There’s no need to look much further when considering the perfect floor tile either. Sticking with natural materials, Becca recommends keeping it neutral and let the walls do the talking; “Wood effect flooring would complement this look perfectly. Try a soft beige for a traditional look, or a cool grey for a more contemporary style. Immerse your chosen space in our extravagant antique mirror, marble-effect tiles or even a striking pattern such as Penshaw Black from our Odyssey range to begin creating the foundations for achieving the Chic Boutique look. “Inspired by the desire to create a unique eclectic space in our home, the Chic Boutique trend is reminiscent of luxurious boutique hotels where decadence and design rule the day” Jane Addis - New Products & Design Manager. This trend is all about keeping it simple and mixing up natural textures with contemporary tile formats to achieve a modern, urban vibe. “With a focus on bringing a calming tone, earthy textures and qualities of natural inspired products into your home, the best way to achieve the Modern Minerals look with tiles is to encompass our wood, marble and stone effect collections from our Tileworks range. Together, these materials will evoke a sense of tranquillity which, when paired with larger format product, will create a simplistic, pared back aesthetic” Jane Addis - New Products & Design Manager. We’re delighted to welcome even more new trend-led designs to our popular Living range! Living is Original Style’s exclusive range of decorative large-format wall tiles, designed and printed in the heart of Devon by our talented team of designers and skilled artisans.   Created with different lifestyles and tastes in mind, a selection of gorgeous new patterns have been curated and are set to have homeowners swooning. All available with coordinating plain tiles, the Living range can be used to establish a variety of schemes with head-turning, statement walls. Wonderfully whimsical and oozing with sophistication and natural beauty, it’s no wonder why Wildflower Rose has been crowned the must-have tile for the upcoming year.   We’ve been nominating a Tile of the Year for the last five years, selecting exclusive, statement tiles, like Wildflower Rose, that are truly unique and set to influence upcoming interior trends. This tile is a real show-stopper and we’re extremely excited to finally present it to you! Brand new to our Living range of decorative, large-format tiles, Wildflower Rose features a delicate yet lively floral design inspired by the untamed wildflowers of the British countryside. With the majority of us currently unable to jet off to sunnier climates, we’ve been looking re encouraging people to look at ways to bring those well-deserved vacation feels into your home. Our Staycation trend is all about showcasing how you can bring relaxing, holiday-inspired vibes into your interior décor so you can create a space to escape within all year round – who doesn’t want that?!   The perfect place to start when embracing this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations, or coastal inspired retreats, and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations, then incorporate them into a designated space within the home. Whether it’s a countryside inspired bathroom, a bedroom with Moroccan accents, a kitchen that transports you to the Mediterranean or an outdoor area that retells stories from late nights in Spain – the possibilities are almost endless. For us and many others, coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the Staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home. Blue tones personify the natural hues of the sea and sky and immediately provide a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Team these blues with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette. To take the coastal vibe a step further, our Maui Pebble mosaics are the perfect accompanying floor tile for the ultimate seaside inspired escape. It’s also important to remember that’s not just colour that can help you achieve your desired look, texture and surface finishes also play an integral part. Confined to the walls that surround us, escapism and relaxation are what homeowners are seeking to achieve when updating an interior décor scheme – and we couldn’t be more on board with this design and lifestyle trend.   Our Sanctuary trend looks at ways to bring tranquility into the home to establish distinct areas for us to unwind in and harmonise our emotional well-being. When it comes to colourways, it’s all about the soft pinks and warm beige's to really embrace a calming and classic neutral palette. Textures also play a key part when it comes to designing a sanctuary. Tactile surfaces, either smooth and glossy or structured and matt, will help create a cosy, spa-like feel and tiles are the perfect material for incorporating either of these textures. For a matt wall covering, our Trellis collection in our Living range is the perfect tile for encapsulating this trend. Featured below is Trellis Lace which has been teamed with warm brown tones and gold accents – a design that exudes tranquility and style.
