  2. A period home with a glamourous, eclectic twist

A period home with a glamourous, eclectic twist We love seeing customer projects come to life, whether it’s a modern kitchen or bathroom, a heritage hallway or a beautiful patio! When we discovered @casaoldcorn on Instagram and saw the most beautiful hallway featuring our Victorian Floor Tiles, we were delighted to work with Lauren and Mark on an exciting fireplace makeover.   Lauren’s Instagram account @casaoldcorn showcases the renovation of her beautiful family home, from her eclectic styling and design to makeover projects and interior ideas. We caught up with Lauren to find out more about how tiles can totally transform a space. Original Style: Can you tell us a little bit about your beautiful home? Lauren: We live in the north east of England and have lived in our home for around five years. Our home is Edwardian and was built in the early 1900s, our first home was a new build but we really love all the character and features you get in a period property.  Original Style: What were your primary goals when it came to updating your home, especially the living area and fireplace? Lauren: Our primary goals when decorating are always to make it more cosy and interesting. With the fireplace we could see its full potential and wanted to make it into more of a feature in the room. We knew the fireplace would look great painted a colour so we opted for a deep blue and we adore Original Style tiles, tiling the fireplace hearth has created so much more impact. We opted for Victorian Floor tiles in a bespoke pattern using pops of pastel colours - it looks amazing!  Original Style: Where did you find the inspiration for your hallway and living room? Lauren: Lots of our inspiration comes from other homes on Instagram. We love bold patterns and colours and have lots of quirky items that are conversation starters throughout our home. We love traditional prints and colours but with a twist. As soon as we moved in we knew tiles would look so much better in the hall than the dark wood floors which were installed beforehand. We had seen others hallways and could see the potential in ours.  Once we had decided on tiles for both the hallway and hearth we went on the hunt for the perfect ones. We found Original Style Victorian Floor tiles and loved all the different patterns and the quality looked great. The Original Style team where so helpful at helping me choose a pattern and colours for the hearth and sending me images to help me pick, they were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Original Style: Why did you choose this particular Victorian Floor Tile pattern, border and colourway for your fireplace?  Lauren: We went with the monochrome checkerboard tiles for our hallway as we think they’re stunning and timeless. We know for as-long as we live here they will never age and any decor will easily go with them. We decided to go for a detailed Victorian Floor Tile pattern for our hearth as it’s really traditional but with a little twist which we love. The pastel centres really bring it all to life.  Original Style: How important would you say it is to use a professional tiler? Lauren: We were on the hunt for a good tiler for the job and we found a really good local man to lay them. He was great and took the time and had the skills needed for the job. I think it’s really important to use an experienced tiler as the patterns are complex, with a number of pieces - it’s definitely an art and a job we couldn’t tackle ourselves. Original Style: What would you say to someone looking to incorporate tiled focal points in their home? Lauren: If you’re looking to incorporate tiles into your home, I would say go for it! They add so much character and they’re beautiful. It’s so special adding original features back into a period home. Walking into our home with our beautiful floor brings us so much joy.  Browse the full Victorian Floor Tile range here or check out our brochure for pattern ideas, more real life installations and tips on selecting a border and colourways.   Read more...
  3. Interior Trends 2023 | Check out this year's style ideas

Interior Trends 2023 | Check out this year's style ideas We’re passionate about keeping up to date with the latest interior trends, researching innovative styles and new products to forecast what will dominate the interiors scene during 2023. Our tile portfolio offers a wide range of designs, textures, finishes, colours and formats. We have an extensive range to ensure you’re choosing the most up-to-date styles for an interior that you’ll love for years to come. Our in-house designers, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan have done extensive research for 2023 interior trends, carefully selecting the following three key themes that are set to be everywhere throughout the upcoming year. This year we’ve focused on shining a light on timeless tiles from some of our most loved collections with enduring style and quality.   Surface The Surface trend is all about our tiles that we’ve sourced from around the world, highlighting in particular our carefully curated range of contemporary tiles. Think clean lines, mixed formats and unusual surfaces, this trend is great for those looking to achieve a modern yet glamourous finish. Incorporating texture into a scheme is a great way to add detail and interest, without committing to bold colours or patterns. This trend focuses on an eclectic mix of tiles, showcasing some of our most interesting formats and textured products that have been meticulously sourced by our expert teams. Creating a luxe look in your home can be easily achieved by pairing together certain design elements. ‘This trend seeks to bring deep tones, contrasting surface finishes and subtle textural detail together to create an elegant feel with rustic touches. We’ve styled black marble hexagons with distressed pink brick tiles, green and gold accents and natural textures to create a look embodying the Surface trend.’ Becca Keenan, New Products Designer.   Colour Glossy jewel-tones, rich reflections and impact, the Colour trend is all about our glazed tiles. Bolder colours have been slowly making their way to the forefront of design, with vivid ceramics becoming a popular choice for those looking to inject some colour into kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and throughout the home. When it comes to embracing the Colour trend with tiles, the options from our ranges are almost endless. Illustrating a radiant feel, this trend features a range of artisanal tiles that are glazed in our factory. Take a look at bright pink and blue wall tiles from our Winchester collection, the deep tones of green and red from the Artworks range, bold designs from both Odyssey and Living ranges and even heritage shades from our geometric Victorian Floor Tile collection. Manufacturing these tiles in-house allows us to create a vibrant and unique range of timeless colours options, so you can find the perfect shade for your interior. Our hand-mixed glazes have been carefully developed over the decades, with precise and perfected recipes. Each tile is fired in our beloved kilns at an exact temperature and time depending on the recipe and glaze. ‘Embrace the Colour trend with the bold shades of Vermillion, Teal or Straw from the Winchester collection. These vibrant wall tiles feature our signature glossy glaze, creating a luxurious yet lively feel. For a creative style statement choose a complementary yet detailed wallpaper, or a contrasting colour for the floor or even the ceiling. The combination of playful prints and bright colours will help you to achieve a fresh, unique finish in kitchens, bathrooms or hallways.’ Becca Keenan, New Products Designer.   Craft The Craft trend embraces our unique and celebrated manufacturing processes, featuring hand-crafted tiles from our most cherished collections. We've celebrated over 35 years as a leading tile manufacturer with our story beginning in the development of decorative tile sets for cast iron fireplaces. Today, we are renowned for our unrivalled tile glazes, exclusive designs and comprehensive tile options; many of which continue to be produced in Exeter, Devon. ‘The Craft trend celebrates our wide range of manufacturing methods. 7. Interior Trends 2021: Staycation

Interior Trends 2021: Staycation With the majority of us currently unable to jet off to sunnier climates, we’ve been looking re encouraging people to look at ways to bring those well-deserved vacation feels into your home. Our Staycation trend is all about showcasing how you can bring relaxing, holiday-inspired vibes into your interior décor so you can create a space to escape within all year round – who doesn’t want that?!   The perfect place to start when embracing this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations, or coastal inspired retreats, and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations, then incorporate them into a designated space within the home. Whether it’s a countryside inspired bathroom, a bedroom with Moroccan accents, a kitchen that transports you to the Mediterranean or an outdoor area that retells stories from late nights in Spain – the possibilities are almost endless. For us and many others, coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the Staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home. Blue tones personify the natural hues of the sea and sky and immediately provide a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Team these blues with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette. To take the coastal vibe a step further, our Maui Pebble mosaics are the perfect accompanying floor tile for the ultimate seaside inspired escape. It’s also important to remember that’s not just colour that can help you achieve your desired look, texture and surface finishes also play an integral part. Keeping with the seaside theme, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy tile finishes creating a bright space that bounces light around the room to mimic the sun reflecting off the sea. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature a light-inducing iridescent finish and coastal curves – perfect for achieving that statement nautical style. 8. Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary

Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary Over the past year, the need for creating calm and serene spaces within the home has become even more paramount. Confined to the walls that surround us, escapism and relaxation are what homeowners are seeking to achieve when updating an interior décor scheme – and we couldn’t be more on board with this design and lifestyle trend.   Our Sanctuary trend looks at ways to bring tranquility into the home to establish distinct areas for us to unwind in and harmonise our emotional well-being. When it comes to colourways, it’s all about the soft pinks and warm beige's to really embrace a calming and classic neutral palette. Textures also play a key part when it comes to designing a sanctuary. Tactile surfaces, either smooth and glossy or structured and matt, will help create a cosy, spa-like feel and tiles are the perfect material for incorporating either of these textures. For a matt wall covering, our Trellis collection in our Living range is the perfect tile for encapsulating this trend. Featured below is Trellis Lace which has been teamed with warm brown tones and gold accents – a design that exudes tranquility and style. If you're looking to incorporate more dusky pink tones and bolder prints, our Odyssey Taupe tiles in our Leigh pattern will provide a cosy, feminine feel whilst maintaining a matt finish. If you love luxury and want to take this look a step further, look to incorporate some more reflective finishes for an added touch of opulence. Our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics or large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are the epitome of luxe décor; their reflective and polished surfaces bounce light around a room for a bright and welcoming atmosphere. To complete the look, incorporating a number of other natural materials is a must. From wooden accessories, indoor plants or even some dried pampas grass will encourage that feeling of serenity and bring all design aspects together. 9. Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub

Interior Trends 2021: Home Hub With many of us now working and schooling from home, the way we’re using the spaces that surround us on a day-to-day basis has changed significantly. Pre-2020, our homes were predominately places of relaxation, socialisation and recreation and now, with the restrictions imposed in response to the pandemic, our properties have become more multi-functional than ever before.   Our Home Hub trend looks at creating spaces, within the home, that are dedicated working areas with décor solutions to motivate and focus the mind. It’s important that these spaces are created in isolation to allow us to shift between working and recreational zones so our homes can be used efficiently for multiple activities. It’s incredibly important that working spaces are kept separate and distinct for our own well-being and our Home Hub trend will help you achieve just this.   For those who have a spare room or ample garden space, the natural step might be to create a working hub by converting a room into an office or investing in a garden room or shed conversion. However, if such spaces aren’t available, adapting existing spaces is also something to consider. By sectioning off an area of your living, dining, kitchen or bedroom you could easily establish a working ‘zone’ that has its own office vibe in order to create an isolated feel. Our Pietra Lombarda tiles feature a subtle terrazzo effect which, alongside its large format, makes it a great choice for embracing the Home Hub trend. It’s 90 x 90cm size results in fewer grout lines creating an almost seamless, less busy interior space. Team Pietra Lombarda with our statement, palm print tile – Eden Hothouse – for a working hub that energises and exudes style. If you’d prefer to opt for a wall covering that’s more pared back, our Eden Pergola tile - as shown in the above mood board - is a perfect alternative for a more understated look.  For those who aren’t opposed to going bold, our Herald mosaic is yet another statement tile for capitalising on this trend. Featuring a combination of wood, stone and marble in a geometric formation, this tile has the right balance of industrial and natural textures for creating a distinctive, cool and contemporary working space Watch our video below to discover more about Home Hub and to see how you could incorporate this trend into your home.   Read more...
  10. Transforming your space with tiles

Transforming your space with tiles Tiles have been a staple in interiors for decades for good reason, their practical properties and vast beautiful design options mean they are the perfect choice for wall and floor coverings throughout the home. However, while many naturally select tiles for their kitchen and bathroom spaces, many overlook the fact they are ideal for hallways, living areas and outdoor spaces.   Why tiles? Naturally, we’re big fans of tiles here at Original Style, but there really is a tile for every area of the home. With recent trends seeing homeowners wanting to create seamless, open plan spaces using long-lasting, practical materials, tiles are the answer to many interior design needs. They are brilliant for creating synergy throughout the home and can be used as a basis to build upon to create many styles and trends, they also provide more durability than perhaps carpet, wood, laminate or lino. While we offer a vast range of tile collections, we understand that sometimes our customers can feel a little unsure where to begin. So we thought we'd take the time to go through a number of style ideas and explain which of our tiles can be used to help create your perfect interior space.   Scandi-Style tile ideas  Scandinavian interior design has dominated home trends for the last few years and it certainly seems the trend is here to stay. This style usually starts with natural textures and neutral tones, like woods teamed with cream, beige and white shades to build a soft yet warm space. For floors, our wood-effect tiles are perfect for this; choose from muted shades of grey, cool-toned browns as well as warmer shades. If wood-effect tiles aren’t your style, take a look at our entire ‘Tileworks’ collection, there are a number of stone and concrete effect tiles in neutral tones, which can be used on both walls and floors to embrace this trend.   Statement style tile ideas Patterned tiles are also hugely popular, from feature floors to stylish splashbacks, patterned tiles are perfect for those looking to add a little extra detail and interest to a scheme. There are plenty of ways to incorporate a statement style with tiles into your space, from fabulous - yet functional - kitchen, bathroom and hallway floors to gorgeous eye-catching walls. Our ‘Odyssey’ collection is home to a series of patterned tiles and borders, inspired by places and cultural design from around the globe and throughout the ages. Think Moroccan bazaars or Turkish pottery, these tiles will transform the walls and floors in your home. For statement walls, our ‘Living’ collection features a selection of large-format, patterned tiles that are distinctively different. These include unique designs such as the French-inspired Maison, iridescent Art Deco style Radiance, and, the uber-cool Nano with urban ditsy prints. These tiles are suitable for many areas in the home - we especially love them for feature walls and, they all come with a coordinating plain tile so you can go as bold or as subtle as you like.   Contemporary style tile ideas Contemporary styles work in kitchens, bathrooms, and generally any room in the home! A modern design style can be created with tiles in many ways, in a variety of formats, textures, finishes, and colours. We’ve got plenty of options for contemporary style-tiles, from stone and wood-effect to large-format glass and metallic finishes. Large-format tiles are wonderfully versatile for a variety of settings and fewer grout lines make for a more chic, seamless finish and can help a space to appear bigger than it is.   Farmhouse style tile ideas The farmhouse, country-style trend is timeless and can be easily created with tiles. Muted hues and natural textures provide the perfect basis to build a rustic interior scheme. Natural stone tiles are great for this; choose from limestone, slate and even real marble, all of which provide an authenticity that will reward you for years to come.     Read more...
