  2. Interior Trends 2023 | Check out this year's style ideas

Interior Trends 2023 | Check out this year's style ideas We’re passionate about keeping up to date with the latest interior trends, researching innovative styles and new products to forecast what will dominate the interiors scene during 2023. Our tile portfolio offers a wide range of designs, textures, finishes, colours and formats. We have an extensive range to ensure you’re choosing the most up-to-date styles for an interior that you’ll love for years to come. Our in-house designers, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan have done extensive research for 2023 interior trends, carefully selecting the following three key themes that are set to be everywhere throughout the upcoming year. This year we’ve focused on shining a light on timeless tiles from some of our most loved collections with enduring style and quality.   Surface The Surface trend is all about our tiles that we’ve sourced from around the world, highlighting in particular our carefully curated range of contemporary tiles. Think clean lines, mixed formats and unusual surfaces, this trend is great for those looking to achieve a modern yet glamourous finish. Incorporating texture into a scheme is a great way to add detail and interest, without committing to bold colours or patterns. This trend focuses on an eclectic mix of tiles, showcasing some of our most interesting formats and textured products that have been meticulously sourced by our expert teams. Creating a luxe look in your home can be easily achieved by pairing together certain design elements. ‘This trend seeks to bring deep tones, contrasting surface finishes and subtle textural detail together to create an elegant feel with rustic touches. We’ve styled black marble hexagons with distressed pink brick tiles, green and gold accents and natural textures to create a look embodying the Surface trend.’ Becca Keenan, New Products Designer.   Colour Glossy jewel-tones, rich reflections and impact, the Colour trend is all about our glazed tiles. Bolder colours have been slowly making their way to the forefront of design, with vivid ceramics becoming a popular choice for those looking to inject some colour into kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and throughout the home. When it comes to embracing the Colour trend with tiles, the options from our ranges are almost endless. Illustrating a radiant feel, this trend features a range of artisanal tiles that are glazed in our factory. Take a look at bright pink and blue wall tiles from our Winchester collection, the deep tones of green and red from the Artworks range, bold designs from both Odyssey and Living ranges and even heritage shades from our geometric Victorian Floor Tile collection. Manufacturing these tiles in-house allows us to create a vibrant and unique range of timeless colours options, so you can find the perfect shade for your interior. Our hand-mixed glazes have been carefully developed over the decades, with precise and perfected recipes. Each tile is fired in our beloved kilns at an exact temperature and time depending on the recipe and glaze. ‘Embrace the Colour trend with the bold shades of Vermillion, Teal or Straw from the Winchester collection. These vibrant wall tiles feature our signature glossy glaze, creating a luxurious yet lively feel. For a creative style statement choose a complementary yet detailed wallpaper, or a contrasting colour for the floor or even the ceiling. The combination of playful prints and bright colours will help you to achieve a fresh, unique finish in kitchens, bathrooms or hallways.’ Becca Keenan, New Products Designer.   Craft The Craft trend embraces our unique and celebrated manufacturing processes, featuring hand-crafted tiles from our most cherished collections. We've celebrated over 35 years as a leading tile manufacturer with our story beginning in the development of decorative tile sets for cast iron fireplaces. Today, we are renowned for our unrivalled tile glazes, exclusive designs and comprehensive tile options; many of which continue to be produced in Exeter, Devon. ‘The Craft trend celebrates our wide range of manufacturing methods. From screen-printing and hand-painting to casting, moulding, glazing and digital printing - everything we produce in our Devon factory is unique thanks to the experience and passion of the skilled crafts people, artists and designers who make up our team.’  Jane Addis, New Products & Design Manager. Our unique manufacturing story has allowed us to create a beautiful range of tiles. Our in-house creative team are at the forefront of ceramic techniques including hand-painted intricate florals, botanical details, raised fruits, screen-printed heritage designs, larger format decoratives and glaze development. These wonderful tiles include timeless delft drawings and Art-Deco designs all the way through to contemporary prints and patterns that have been designed by our specialist teams and printed on our state-of-the-art digital printer.  ‘To achieve this look style our checkerboard effect Harlequin tiles from the Odyssey Grande collection with softly glazed Mere field tiles from the Winchester Cosmopolitan collection. 7. Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary

Interior Trends 2021: Sanctuary Over the past year, the need for creating calm and serene spaces within the home has become even more paramount. Confined to the walls that surround us, escapism and relaxation are what homeowners are seeking to achieve when updating an interior décor scheme – and we couldn’t be more on board with this design and lifestyle trend.   Our Sanctuary trend looks at ways to bring tranquility into the home to establish distinct areas for us to unwind in and harmonise our emotional well-being. When it comes to colourways, it’s all about the soft pinks and warm beige's to really embrace a calming and classic neutral palette. Textures also play a key part when it comes to designing a sanctuary. Tactile surfaces, either smooth and glossy or structured and matt, will help create a cosy, spa-like feel and tiles are the perfect material for incorporating either of these textures. For a matt wall covering, our Trellis collection in our Living range is the perfect tile for encapsulating this trend. Featured below is Trellis Lace which has been teamed with warm brown tones and gold accents – a design that exudes tranquility and style. If you're looking to incorporate more dusky pink tones and bolder prints, our Odyssey Taupe tiles in our Leigh pattern will provide a cosy, feminine feel whilst maintaining a matt finish. If you love luxury and want to take this look a step further, look to incorporate some more reflective finishes for an added touch of opulence. Our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics or large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are the epitome of luxe décor; their reflective and polished surfaces bounce light around a room for a bright and welcoming atmosphere. To complete the look, incorporating a number of other natural materials is a must. From wooden accessories, indoor plants or even some dried pampas grass will encourage that feeling of serenity and bring all design aspects together. 8. Transforming your space with tiles

Transforming your space with tiles Tiles have been a staple in interiors for decades for good reason, their practical properties and vast beautiful design options mean they are the perfect choice for wall and floor coverings throughout the home. However, while many naturally select tiles for their kitchen and bathroom spaces, many overlook the fact they are ideal for hallways, living areas and outdoor spaces.   Why tiles? Naturally, we’re big fans of tiles here at Original Style, but there really is a tile for every area of the home. With recent trends seeing homeowners wanting to create seamless, open plan spaces using long-lasting, practical materials, tiles are the answer to many interior design needs. They are brilliant for creating synergy throughout the home and can be used as a basis to build upon to create many styles and trends, they also provide more durability than perhaps carpet, wood, laminate or lino. While we offer a vast range of tile collections, we understand that sometimes our customers can feel a little unsure where to begin. So we thought we'd take the time to go through a number of style ideas and explain which of our tiles can be used to help create your perfect interior space.   Scandi-Style tile ideas  Scandinavian interior design has dominated home trends for the last few years and it certainly seems the trend is here to stay. This style usually starts with natural textures and neutral tones, like woods teamed with cream, beige and white shades to build a soft yet warm space. For floors, our wood-effect tiles are perfect for this; choose from muted shades of grey, cool-toned browns as well as warmer shades. If wood-effect tiles aren’t your style, take a look at our entire ‘Tileworks’ collection, there are a number of stone and concrete effect tiles in neutral tones, which can be used on both walls and floors to embrace this trend.   Statement style tile ideas Patterned tiles are also hugely popular, from feature floors to stylish splashbacks, patterned tiles are perfect for those looking to add a little extra detail and interest to a scheme. There are plenty of ways to incorporate a statement style with tiles into your space, from fabulous - yet functional - kitchen, bathroom and hallway floors to gorgeous eye-catching walls. Our ‘Odyssey’ collection is home to a series of patterned tiles and borders, inspired by places and cultural design from around the globe and throughout the ages. Think Moroccan bazaars or Turkish pottery, these tiles will transform the walls and floors in your home. For statement walls, our ‘Living’ collection features a selection of large-format, patterned tiles that are distinctively different. These include unique designs such as the French-inspired Maison, iridescent Art Deco style Radiance, and, the uber-cool Nano with urban ditsy prints. These tiles are suitable for many areas in the home - we especially love them for feature walls and, they all come with a coordinating plain tile so you can go as bold or as subtle as you like.   Contemporary style tile ideas Contemporary styles work in kitchens, bathrooms, and generally any room in the home! A modern design style can be created with tiles in many ways, in a variety of formats, textures, finishes, and colours. We’ve got plenty of options for contemporary style-tiles, from stone and wood-effect to large-format glass and metallic finishes. Large-format tiles are wonderfully versatile for a variety of settings and fewer grout lines make for a more chic, seamless finish and can help a space to appear bigger than it is.   Farmhouse style tile ideas The farmhouse, country-style trend is timeless and can be easily created with tiles. Muted hues and natural textures provide the perfect basis to build a rustic interior scheme. Natural stone tiles are great for this; choose from limestone, slate and even real marble, all of which provide an authenticity that will reward you for years to come.     Read more...
  9. Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021

Original Style's Interior Trends for 2021 As we look forward to 2021, it’s important to consider the impact that 2020 has had on our lives and the influence upon our homes. For many of us, our priorities and lifestyles have altered dramatically and it was inevitable that such a sudden transformation of circumstances would completely change how we look at and use the spaces within our properties.   Each year, Original Style forecasts interior trends for the upcoming year working with industry and in-house experts to determine what styles, designs and colourways are likely to be popular so we can look at our tile ranges and help customers choose products to best achieve each of the predicted looks. This year is a little different. As a result of changing behaviours and everyday life, we considered it necessary to look at evolved lifestyle trends, to further understand the new priorities within the home, so we could inspire the embrace of the new normal and help customers adapt spaces to better suit their interior needs. Working alongside our in-house design experts, Jane Addis and Becca Keenan, we’ve determined three key home lifestyle trends that research suggests will be of most interest to homeowners over the coming year. So, without further ado, let’s talk trends!     Sanctuary Sanctuary is all about creating a calm, safe and tranquil space within the home to de-stress and escape from the worries and angst that life can bring. “With the global pandemic having an impact on our mental health, it’s vital that we create an isolated space, within our home, which brings serenity and allows us to take some time out to focus on our emotional wellbeing. Our environments have the ability to affect the way we think so this trend is about creating spaces that instill peace. Think soothing, neutral colourways and nature-inspired materials” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “Textures also play a key part in this trend. Tactile surfaces with either smooth and glossy or structured and matt finishes will help create a cosy, spa-like feel within a scheme. You also want to look at adding a touch of opulence for a slight luxurious vibe, so reflective materials such as our White Pearl Hexagon mosaics and large-format Bianco Oro marble-effect tiles are perfect for achieving this” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Staycation Due to restricted travel overseas, 2020 has been the year of the staycation and this trend is all about helping you bring relaxing, holiday vibes into your interior décor.   “The best way to embrace this trend is to think of your favourite holiday locations or coastal inspired retreats and look at the colours, textures and materials that embody these destinations and bring them into your home. Beaches and coastal locations epitomise vacations so a great way of embracing the staycation trend is to look at bringing a range of different blues into the home that personify the natural hues of the sea and sky. Team with fresh whites and subtle greys to create a seamless coastal colour palette” – Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “In addition to colour, we’d suggest exploring shimmery and glossy materials to create bright, reflective spaces that bounce light around the room. Our Pearl Scale mosaics feature iridescent qualities that not only provide a light-inducing surface but also mimic sea life inspired curves for the ultimate coastal-inspired space. Pair with soft woods and wicker textures to bring the look together” – Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style   Home Hub With many of us now working from home, the creation of remote office spaces has become a necessity and has completely changed how we use our homes on a day to day basis. “The Home Hub trend looks at working spaces and advocates décor solutions that motivates, inspires and brings a sense of calm – enabling us to work comfortably whilst creating a distinct space that’s separate to other areas of the home. Think urban jungle, bringing the outside in and cool and contemporary tiles with an industrial edge to create a working environment that has harmony and balance” - Jane Addis, New Products and Design Manager at Original Style “When it comes to colourways, Home Hub is all about earthy tones. Incorporate various hues of greens and browns together with a range of surface textures and house plants to bring the look to life. “Our Living Eden tile range complements this trend beautifully. Featuring lush and leafy designs printed on a large-format matt base, these tiles encompass the natural, contemporary vibe of Home Hub and are perfect for embracing this trend” - Becca Keenan, New Products Designer at Original Style. 10. Our favourite outdoor tiles

Our favourite outdoor tiles This time of year sees many of us updating and renovating our gardens and outdoor spaces into our own little slices of paradise, especially with the warm and sunny weather we’ve been having this spring and summer!   If you’re transforming your outside space, have you considered tiles? While there are several options when it comes to flooring, such as decking and concrete, tiles are a great choice in terms of practicality and style. Not only are they hard wearing and easy to maintain, there are also a number of patterns, colours and formats available so that you can create a beautiful space you’ll love for years to come. We’ve got a varied selection of outdoor floor tiles, from natural tones and finishes to bright colours and bold patterns, here’s a closer look.   Natural and Grey Tones For those creating a garden scheme in neutral tones, take a look at our wood-effect tile options. The Lignum collection offers six subtle shades, including soft greys and warm browns, all in a slip-resistant finish. Unlike real wood or decking, these tiles are impervious to rot and rising damp and are very low maintenance as they don’t need sanding or resealing - they’re even wear resistant! It’s no surprise that grey tiles are a popular choice for homeowners, grey tones have been on-trend for some time and the trend shows no sign of slowing down either. If you’re looking for grey tiles that work with your scheme check out Kaamos, also available in Black and Ivory, these tiles are perfect for indoor and outdoor use – and even better when used in synergy.   Pretty Patterns Incorporating pattern into your outdoor space is easily done with tiles, and we have a wide selection of beautiful options, mainly in our Odyssey range. This collection is home to a range of patterned tiles and borders all of which are inspired by journeys of discovery from across the globe meaning you can create your own holiday feel in your back garden with tiles! Choose from delicate prints and soft shades to deep reds, buffs and monochrome styles.   Heritage Style If you’re creating a more heritage feel then you may already be considering Victorian Floor Tiles, which are perfect for achieving this look. Although traditionally used on front paths, porches and in hallways, Victorian floor tiles look stunning in any outside area. Their durable nature, endless styling options and colourways means there’s a Victorian Floor tile pattern for everyone’s taste.   Make a Statement  If you’re really looking to make a statement in your outdoor space then try using tiles on the walls and floors to create a Mediterranean feel.
