Naturally, we’re big fans of tiles here at Original Style, but there really is a tile for every area of the home. With recent trends seeing homeowners wanting to create seamless, open plan spaces using long-lasting, practical materials, tiles are the answer to many interior design needs. So we thought we'd take the time to go through a number of style ideas and explain which of our tiles can be used to help create your perfect interior space.   Scandi-Style tile ideas  Scandinavian interior design has dominated home trends for the last few years and it certainly seems the trend is here to stay. This style usually starts with natural textures and neutral tones, like woods teamed with cream, beige and white shades to build a soft yet warm space. For floors, our wood-effect tiles are perfect for this; choose from muted shades of grey, cool-toned browns as well as warmer shades. We’ve got plenty of options for contemporary style-tiles, from stone and wood-effect to large-format glass and metallic finishes. Here’s a closer look at some of our top picks…   Kitchens In recent years, modern kitchens have consisted of sleek, streamlined cabinetry with minimalism playing a vital role and a similar approach can be adopted with tiles. Our collections host a number of contemporary-style tiles that not only provide the perfect modern finish but are also brilliant because they work in both small and large kitchens. When we say contemporary-style tiles we’re typically referring to large-format. With so many options, we thought it would be helpful to showcase how this collection can be used throughout all the areas of the home.   Lounge With more and more of us opting for open plan living, lounges with tiles are becoming more popular, due to their functionality and sleek look. Through incorporating classic qualities of historical interior décor alongside modern influences, you can create a space that withstands the test of time whilst ensuring your home never goes out of style.   Tiles have been a staple within interiors for centuries and despite the evolution of various formats and finishes, it’s the traditional styles that turn heads time after time - from the quintessentially British Victorian Floor Tiles through to artisan glazed and decorative tiles such as Original Style’s Artworks and Winchester tile collections.   “What’s wonderful about the New Heritage trend is that you don’t have to have to a period property to embrace it! Stone, wood, concrete and marble-effects are all available in porcelain tile for a result that’s not only realistic – honestly, they look and feel just like their original counterparts! – but also wonderfully practical. “When it comes to texture play, it’s all about mixing up surface finishes within a space. In modern interiors, simply looking good isn’t good enough – during 2020, we’re anticipating an emphasis on how design feels. This new look, full of contrasts, is based on texture pairing; rough with smooth and matt with gloss, in order to achieve an atmospheric look and sensory experience that draws the eye and encourages touch. “This look can be achieved through installing flooring with a matt finish, such as Original Style’s Victorian Floor Tiles or a stone-effect tile such as ‘Mediterraneo’, in addition to a wall tile with a glossy glaze. We’re always on the lookout for new and exciting trends, especially for our most contemporary range, Tileworks. To keep things fresh and offer a dynamic choice, we’ve added a handpicked selection of new products to the range, from gorgeous grey wood effect tiles to decorated tiles perfect for creating striking feature walls. Keep on reading to find out more about the new products or just be inspired by our new photography!   Bricking it There’s no denying the beauty of these new Montblanc brick tiles, a brilliant choice for kitchens and bathrooms, especially for those lusting after some luxe. Brick tiles are getting a lot of limelight lately, with homeowners opting for contemporary layouts like stack bond and herringbone to liven up dull spaces. Mix together all four colours, Blue, Pearl, White and Anthracite for a gorgeous feature wall or just use one shade alone, either way these tiles will add some luxury. These additions complement the existing Montblanc collection, try teaming together with one of the large format tiles. We love how all of the sizes and colours work together.   Wonderful Wood Effect We’ve also complemented our Wood-effect collections with Oakwood and Krea. Oakwood comes in four realistic wood toned shades, shown below is Oakwood Nut, a gorgeous neutral blend suitable for all living spaces. Krea comes in three shades and two versions, with one suitable for inside and outside use, as well as wet areas. We’ve used it in a bathroom setting below and love the earthy grey undertones, teamed with contemporary fittings and fixtures for a cool contrast.   Krea also looks great in other areas of the home and is ideal as a neutral base for floors in living areas.   Industrial Style In concrete-effect, there’s Pescara, a matt large format tile which is available in a smooth or textured finish. The great thing about this range is how the two finishes work together. Try brick bonding to add some interest or keep it contemporary with a stack bond style. For something with a little more atmosphere we’ve added Shadow, which comes in 4 shades of grey. Choose from a 600 x 300mm format or a 600 x 600mm, or use both!    There’s something about marble… To complement our ever popular marble-effect collection we’ve added a striking black colourway, Nero Marquina. One of the biggest interior design trends of late has been a move towards clean and contemporary interiors, often with an industrial edge.   Materials such as concrete or natural stone are remaining popular thanks to the rise of the 'architectural' look that can often be seen in hugely popular shows like Grand Designs, and it's now possible to fake this style with realistic tile replicas. But why is it so popular and how can you recreate the look at home? The key reason is that large format tiles offer a no-nonsense, sleek and unfussy aesthetic. This is largely due to the fact that using tiles of this size results in far fewer grout lines, allowing a clean and uninterrupted finish. It's a myth that large scale tiles shouldn't or can't be used in more compact rooms - in fact, these spaces are perfect for them. Using oversized tiles in a small area tricks the eye into thinking that the room is much bigger than it really is, so can help to create a sense of scale where it doesn't naturally exist. Not to mention the fact that few grout lines means easier cleaning! Just make sure you hire a professional to install them, as more cuts will probably be required. It's also important to lay large format tiles onto a flat floor as their impressive scale makes them inflexible. Porcelain and ceramic large format tiles are one of the most popular materials for these sizes. Considerably more affordable than other ranges, these materials also benefit from advancements in technology, such as new printing techniques. This allows effects such as concrete, wood and stone to be applied to tiles for a realistic finish with all but no maintenance requirements. Whilst genuine concrete looks great, it is susceptible to staining. In this instance, a large format concrete effect porcelain tile can be a great alternative. Another benefit of using porcelain tiles is that decorative effects can be applied, such as aged metal in our Steel effect tiles.
